이재명 대통령이 세종시에서 동북아역사재단 업무 보고를 받으면서, ‘환빠’ 이야기를 꺼냈다. '환빠'는 강단 역사학계에서는 위서(조작된 책)로 취급하고 있는 '환단고기(桓檀古記)' 추종자를 말한다. 

반지성적인 행동이라 쓴웃음이 나오지만 이 대통령의 지지자 입장에서는 짜릿한 모양이다.

그리고는 하고 싶었던 이야기를 꺼내는데...

이: 그 역사교육 관련해서 무슨 '환빠' 논쟁 있죠? 

박지향 이사장: 저는 잘 모르겠습니다. 하하.

남 야단 치는 매력에 이재명 뽑은 사람들이니 어쩔 수 없다. 허나 조금 더 들으면 환빠 논란을 박 이사장도 잘 알고 있다. 그 전 대통령들의 업무 보고에서는 그 비슷한 이야기도 나오지 않았다.

이재명의 언어는 노무현과 참 많이 다르다. 

이: 그.. 단.. 단군. 환단

박: 아아.. 예예예.

이: 환단고기 거. 주장하고 연구하는 사람을 보고 비하해서 환빠라고 부르잖아요. 

업무보고 중 환빠 이야기를 들을 거란 생각을 누가 하겠나. 

이: 그런데 동북아역사재단은 특별히 관심이 없는 모양이군요.

박: 어...

최근에 환단고기 논쟁이라도 있었나? 이재명이 역사책을 읽을리는 없겠지만, 주위 NL들... 정진상이라던가... 누군가 기지개를 펴고 있나 보다. 

이: 고대역사 연구 부분에 대한 연구를 놓고 지금 다툼이 벌어지는 거잖아요.

박: 네네. 그렇습니다.

격렬한 논쟁이라도 있는 것처럼 상황을 만든다.

이: 그러면 동북아역사재단은 고대역사 연구를 안 하는 겁니까?

20년 전 NL들이 좋아하는 그 환단고기가 왜 지금 나올까.

이: 증거가 없는 건 역사가 아니다?

증거가 없어도 NL에게는 역사지.

박: 일단은 역사는 사료를 중심으로 하고 있죠. 

이: 사료는 물리적 증거를 말하는 건지. 역사적 문헌에 있는 걸 증거라고 하는지는 논쟁거리죠.

박: 기본적으로 저희는 문헌 사료를 중시하고 있습니다.

이: 환단고기는 문헌이 아니예요?

이재명은 환단고기도 역사적 문헌이며 증거가 될 수 있다고 한다.

박: 모든 역사가 다 사실을 기록하고 있지는 않습니다. 그래서 많은 연구자들이 그 기록이 사실인지 아닌지 대해서 논란을 벌이고 있고... 물론 모든 게 정확하고 맞고 틀리다 라는 건 없습니다. 저희 재단에서도 한때 재야사학자하고 협력한 적이 있습니다. 그런데 별로 결과가 좋지를 않았습니다.

박 이사장이 환단고기의 문제점을 설명하는데...

이: 고민거리입니다.

환단고기가 입장 차이로 인해 해석이 달라지는 건가. 환단고기를 믿는 쪽에서는 역사적인 날이다.

환단고기를 비판해온 쪽은? 침묵으로 동조하는 사람은 양반이고, 심지어 이 대통령이 환단고기를 비판한 것으로 인식하더라고. 환단고기와 화해하라는데 그게 무슨 비판이야. 동북아역사재단은 환단고기와 어떤 악연이 있는 걸까? 

10년 전 동북아역사재단은 '동북아역사지도' 편찬 사업을 했다. 50억 가까이 든 대규모 사업이다. 이덕일은 이 지도가 '노론 식민사관'이라며 딴지를 걸었다. 지도에 독도가 없다나? 지도를 줌인해서 해상도를 높이면 독도가 당연히 나온다. 동북아역사지도는 결국 물 건너 가버렸다. 

그 무렵 이재명 당시 성남시장은 이덕일의 명예훼손 피소 재판에 관심을 가지고 응원하고 있었다. 

"우리 사회 곳곳에 침투한 친일세력들... 언젠가 반드시 뿌리를 뽑아야지요. 이덕일 소장님 무죄판결 축하하고 환영합니다"

이덕일은 고려대 김현구 교수를 친일세력으로 몰다가 명예훼손으로 고소당했다.

"김현구는 임나일본부가 실제로 한반도 남부를 지배했다고 쓴 인물이다." -이덕일, ‘우리 안의 식민사관’

사실과 다른 내용이다. 김현구 교수는 그렇게 쓴 적이 없다. 김현구 교수는 이덕일의 날조된 주장으로 인해 기나긴 고생을 하게 된다. 

다시 이 대통령의 10년 전 공언을 떠올린다. 

"우리 사회 곳곳에 침투한 친일세력들... 언젠가 반드시 뿌리를 뽑아야지요."

하지도 않은 말 때문에 친일로 몰리고 뿌리까지 뽑히게 생겼으니, 환빠들은 환호하고 상식인은 환장할 노릇이다.

What kind of ill-fated relationship does the Northeast Asian History Foundation have with Hwandan Gogi?

About ten years ago, the Foundation undertook the “Northeast Asian Historical Atlas” project—a large-scale initiative costing nearly 5 billion won. Lee Deok-il attacked it as “Noron colonial historiography,” claiming Dokdo was missing. In fact, Dokdo appears clearly when the map is zoomed in. Nevertheless, the project was ultimately scrapped.

At the time, Lee Jae-myung, then mayor of Seongnam, showed keen interest in Lee Deok-il’s defamation trial and openly supported him.

“Pro-Japanese forces have infiltrated every corner of our society… One day, they must be uprooted.”
“Congratulations on Director Lee Deok-il’s acquittal.”

Lee Deok-il had accused Professor Kim Hyun-gu of Korea University of being pro-Japanese and was sued for defamation.

This was false. Professor Kim never wrote such a thing. Yet he suffered greatly due to Lee Deok-il’s fabricated claims.

Now recall Lee Jae-myung’s words from a decade ago:

“Pro-Japanese forces have infiltrated our society… One day, they must be uprooted.”

Being branded pro-Japanese for things never said, and facing total destruction as a result—Hwan-ppas cheer, while those with common sense can only despair.
