Actor Myung Kye-nam (74), a former chairman of the pro-Roh Moo-hyun supporters’ groupNosamo, was appointed governor of Hwanghae Province on the 2nd. He was one of the entertainers who officially declared support forLee Jae-myung during the last presidential election.

The Hwanghae provincial governor is a vice-minister–level government position recommended by the Minister of the Interior and Safety and appointed by the president. The annual salary is about 145 million won.

Myung, who had strongly revealed his political leanings as a pro-Roh figure, reportedly faced financial difficulties after the change of administration when casting offers for films and television dramas dried up.
