In response to President Lee’s mention of “six homes,” what year was the black-and-white photo posted by Jang Dong-hyuk taken?

“Because of the president, ‘the unfilial son weeps’ at the very start of the New Year.”

At around 1:40 a.m. on the 16th, President Lee Jae-myung shared an article on X (formerly Twitter) titled “Opposition: ‘President Lee, sell your Bundang apartment and buy stocks’ / Ruling party: ‘Jang Dong-hyuk owns six homes’.” Along with the link, the president wrote:

“There was something I had wanted to quietly ask Chairman Jang Dong-hyuk if he ever came to the Blue House, but I’ll ask it now. Does the People Power Party believe that multi-homeowners should not be regulated, that they should be protected, and that existing financial and tax privileges should be maintained?”

The post directly targeted Chairman Jang, who owns six properties including homes and officetels, casting him as aligned with entrenched real-estate interests.

In response, Jang posted the black-and-white photo above on his Facebook page, writing, “Because of the president, ‘the unfilial son weeps’ at the very start of the New Year.”

Jang said, “It’s the holidays, so I came to my hometown where my 95-year-old mother lives,” adding, “Because of the president’s post on X, my mother is very worried. She said, ‘If getting rid of this house is the issue, then I should hurry up and die… sigh.’”

He continued, “She was furious, saying, ‘If you studied hard and sent yourself to Seoul, you should be a lawmaker in Seoul—why come back to your hometown and get cursed at by the president?’” He added, “I just hope that at least my mother-in-law, who lives alone, didn’t see the president’s post.”

However, the black-and-white photo Jang uploaded was not taken during this Lunar New Year holiday but three years ago, in 2022.

Regarding his six properties, Jang has said, “All together they’re worth about 850 million won,” and has claimed, “Let’s swap them all for President Lee’s Bundang apartment.”
